Cacao has a long history in Indonesia. Behind each of our origins lies a real human story of endless passion and admirable perseverance. At Biji Kakao Trading we celebrate this heritage, but we also regard it as our duty and privilege to help protect it.
In order for us to be able to deliver the best cacao possible we rely on long term partnerships with all stakeholders involved from farmers and cooperatives, to logistics partners and chocolate makers around the world.
Our business model is straight forward. We disclose what we pay across the supply chain. Whilst most of our cacao is not certified, we can fully trace our cacao from its source to our client.
What we do must create a positive impact across the entire value chain. We start by decommoditising cacao and pay all our farmers a price which reflects the unique qualities of their crop and not volatile bulk cacao spot prices. This not only helps improve farmers’ livelihoods but also helps improve their farms and yields and ultimately results in better cacao.
Our cacao can only be as good as the environment within which it grows. That’s why all our farmers apply Good Agricultural Practices (“GAP”) and grow sustainable cacao based on multi-crop and/or agroforestry principles.
